So what is The Social Gays?
The Social Gays is a community group for gay men (21+) who are looking to make new friends, connect with others, and be part of something social that isn’t centred around dating or hooking up. It’s all about creating a relaxed, welcoming space where people can meet through fun events like mixers, brunches, games nights, and more. Whether you’re new to the area or just looking to expand your circle, it’s about real connection and good vibes—without the pressure.
What made you come up with the idea?
Honestly, I came up with The Social Gays because I felt like something was missing. Compared to ten years ago, there just doesn’t seem to be the same sense of community for gay men in Brighton. A lot of spaces now feel very focused on dating or hooking up, and I wanted to create something different—something that felt welcoming, inclusive, and centred around connection and friendship. The idea was to build a space where people could meet new mates, feel part of something, and enjoy events that aren’t all about drinking or dating, just genuine community and good vibes.
What can people expect from The Social Gays?
You can expect a warm, welcoming vibe and events that are all about connection—not pressure. The Social Gays is here to help build real community, so whether you’re coming alone or with friends, the goal is to make it easy to meet new people and feel part of something. We’ll be running all sorts of events—from relaxed mixers and brunches to games nights, sober-friendly meetups, and more—designed to be fun, inclusive, and judgment-free. It’s not about dating or hooking up, it’s about friendship, good chat, and building something Brighton’s been missing for a while.
You are currently in Brighton. Do you plan to be in other places in the future?
At the moment, I’m really focused on building something strong and consistent here in Brighton & Hove. That’s the priority—creating a proper sense of community and making sure the events feel meaningful and fun. But who knows! If there’s interest from other areas in the future, expanding is definitely something I’d consider. One step at a time though—Brighton first!
